JOB POSTING: Legal Internship

The Ohio Environmental Council wants to support the next generation of environmental legal champions. We are seeking two legal interns for temporary employment with a passion for environmental justice and the writing/research skills necessary to join the OEC’s Law Center. The OEC is seeking two candidates for the Spring / Summer 2026 cycle (February 9, 2026 to July 31, 2026). Each candidate will be eligible for 15 hours per week at a rate of $22 an hour.

Responsibilities

Legal Interns will assist the organization’s Law Center with its numerous projects related to Energy, Democracy, Water, Lands, and other matters of nonprofit law. Potential work product could include the following activities:

Research legal questions that support the OEC’s cases in various venues, particularly the Ohio Power Siting Board and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio
Assist in drafting comments regarding proposed administrative rulemakings at the Ohio EPA, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and other agencies
Write memos analyzing important issues in 501(c)(3) nonprofit law, elections law, and voter protection
Explore complex environmental legal questions that further the OEC’s mission

Qualifications

Preferred: Second or Third-Year Students enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school
Strong passion for public interest law
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Able to work Independently and on a team
Strong editing and proofreading skills
Adheres to the highest ethical standards
Conducts work through the lens of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion to ensure all Ohioans have equal access to the environmental movement.
