Summary: Under the general supervision of the DC Office Administrator, the assigned Attorney Mentor, and according to established Firm policies and procedures, the Intern performs a variety of job duties for the Firm. The Intern will work collaboratively with teams on specific short and long-term projects and perform tasks as delegated. Activities will be assigned based on Firm needs and learning opportunities for the Intern.
Internship Eligibility: This intern position is designed to introduce students considering law school or law firm support positions by working with attorneys and legal support teams on various projects. Professional business experience, skill, knowledge, aptitude, education, and legal practice interest criteria will be considered during the selection process. Internships are based on the firm’s business need, attorney mentor availability, and billable capacity.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the law and legal procedures at a level normally acquired through a minimum of one year of college or equivalent professional business experience.
- Maintain accurate time records and positive contact with clients and observe confidentiality in client and Firm matters.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when performing substantive functions.
- Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate in person, by e-mail and telephone and follow the instruction effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including personal computer, copiers, phones, and scanning equipment.
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours a week, including evening hours as necessary.
