Practice Innovation Intern
Katten is looking for a Practice Innovation Intern for a 5-7 month internship within its growing Innovation Department. Katten's Innovation Team is charged with exploring and bringing forward new processes and technology to benefit the firm's clients, practices and operations. It has introduced a number of new practice solutions and technologies to the firm and also worked with clients in their development and use on a regular basis.
We are looking for a motivated rising 2L in the summer/fall of 2026 who have an eye toward the future of the practice of law, including increasing leverage of technology, collaboration, data management, and creative solutions. Interest in AI, data management, and coding is a plus, but not required. Our intern will be assigned to number of projects that will have exposure to our attorneys at all levels. The intern will run projects around our initiatives and become an advocate for change within our firm and with our clients.
This position can be located in either our Chicago or New York office. The summer work will be a full-time position, while the fall work will be a mutually agreed upon part-time schedule given law school commitments.
We expect the starting date to be in May or early June, 2026.

- Collaborate with lawyers, Practice Solutions, Talent Team, Information Technology, Business Development, Finance and firm leadership and others to grow the firm's culture of innovation and improve the practice of law.
- Work on data collection and data review related to practice group innovation projects.
- Partner with legal teams to enhance the delivery of legal services.
- Facilitate knowledge capture and assist in designing, building and maintaining knowledge repositories, deal databases, client dashboards, etc.
- Conduct market, internal and external research and convey results to others within the team and within firm leadership.
- Research and evaluate tools and procedures that promote productivity and service quality.
- Provide presentations to the firm's lawyers and leadership to promote the use of technology and non-traditional service delivery techniques that enhance client value and amplify the firm's value proposition.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- The ideal candidate would be in their first year of law school pursuing a JD. Candidate should have an interest or experience in technology, data science, design thinking, project management, and/or process improvement.

- Passionate about legal technology and evolving trends within the legal market.
- Interest and capabilities around generative artificial intelligence.

- Able to effectively distill complx information, synthesize, simplify, and present to firm management, attorneys and staff.
- Possess excellent reading, writing, grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofreading and formatting skills in order to interpret and analyze source data, prepare correspondence and documentation, and proofread material for grammatical, typographical and spelling errors.
- Able to perform mathematical calculations and apply mathematical concepts when computing, reconciling balances, verifying numerical data, and preparing various reports.
The annualized salary range for this position is between $90,000 - $100,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
