Our practice includes patent, trademark, copyright, and related IP matters for clients ranging from startups to established businesses.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Summer Law Clerk to join our intellectual property law firm. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated law student or aspiring legal professional with a technical background in computer engineering, software engineering, or mechanical engineering who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in intellectual property law. No prior law firm experience is required. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and eager to learn.
Responsibilities
The Summer Law Clerk may assist attorneys with a variety of tasks, including:
- Conducting legal and technical research
- Assisting with patent and trademark prosecution matters
- Reviewing inventions, technical documents, and product materials
- Drafting correspondence, summaries, and internal memoranda
- Supporting preparation of patent applications, office action responses, and other IP-related filings
- Assisting with due diligence and portfolio management projects
- Organizing case files and maintaining matter-related documents
- Performing other substantive and administrative support tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Current law student, recent graduate, or candidate with a strong interest in intellectual property law
- Educational background in computer engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field
- Strong academic credentials and excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Careful attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general comfort working with technical materials
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in patent law, technology, innovation, or engineering-related legal work
- Interest in pursuing the patent bar, if eligible
