leading conventions, trade shows, and special events on Manhattan’s West Side.
These events generate billions of dollars in annual economic activity for New York City and New York State, supporting thousands of jobs.
Located between West 34th and West 40th Streets, the Javits Center features more than 850,000 square feet of exhibition space, expanded meeting rooms, a rooftop pavilion and terrace, and a wide range of sustainability and technology-driven services.
Program Overview
The Javits Emerging Leaders Program (JELP) is a paid summer internship designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders through hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional development.
Program Dates: June 8 – August 14

Position Summary
The JELP Intern will be an integral member of the Legal Solutions team, contributing to research, documentation, and risk management initiatives that support key business functions across the organization. This role is designed to go beyond traditional support—interns will take ownership of meaningful work that directly impacts compliance, decision-making, and organizational risk strategy.
Through hands-on work, mentorship, and a capstone project, interns will develop in demand skills in legal research, critical thinking, analysis, and cross-functional collaboration, empowering them to grow as future leaders and confidently take the next step in their careers.
Essential Functions
Core Responsibilities (All Interns):
Support departmental initiatives and daily operations Collaborate with cross-functional teams Participate in all JELP programming and events
Contribute to and complete assigned capstone project
Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and initiative
Department-Specific Responsibilities:
Research and draft formal memoranda on litigation, contracts, and New York State
legislation impacting the Javits Center.
Assist the Legal Department with contract management, document retention, and FOILcompliance.
Retrieve, organize, and maintain historical records and the department’s filing systems.
Exercise sound decision-making and a collaborative approach to resolving legal and operational challenges.
Prepare and deliver professional presentations on legal topics to relevant stakeholders.
Utilize and integrate AI into the department efficiently and effectively.
Coordinate with internal departments to advance Javits Center and Legal Department objectives.
Execute additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student (or recent graduate)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and strong attention to details
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong writing, research, and organizational skills
Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, and AI
Preferred major in legal, compliance, or risk management topics
Ability to handle matters with discretion
Program Requirements
Must be available to work full-time onsite at the Javits Center for the duration of the
program.
