Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an Intern to support our General Ledger team in the Finance department, reporting directly to the team’s Senior Accountants.

As part of Finance’s General Ledger team, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the firm’s financial operations and accounting processes. You will be directly involved in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting and reconciliation activities, and ensuring compliance across the global firm.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

Assist with accounting and reporting tasks, including fixed asset accounting, daily cash flow reports, unclaimed property tasks, prescreening reclass journal entries, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, and updating monthly workpapers.
Research discrepancies, missing invoices or payments, and basic account activity, communicating findings to the appropriate team member.
Examine large data sets and develop Excel skills, including PivotTables and formulas from basic to advanced.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an accredited university or college (Accounting, Finance or related field preferred)
Basic understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and general ledger processes.
Proficiency in Windows operating systems and in Microsoft office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work both independently and collaboratively.
Good written and verbal communication skills to interact with colleagues across departments.
Eagerness to learn, adapt, and gain exposure to global firm operations.

The hourly rate range for this position in New York is $21.50 to $24.50/hr.
