Internship Summary
MassHousing seeks a Legal Intern to support affordable housing multi-family transactions, general legal
functions, and special projects. The role offers hands-on experience in real estate and affordable housing
law, with exposure to multiple legal specializations. Responsibilities include developing real estate skills,
contributing to transactional work, and attending closing calls to learn the full process of program-specific
loan closings.
The Legal Intern can expect to work on the following types of tasks:
- Train with lawyers across various specializations in the Legal Department to gain a broad understanding of affordable housing legal practices
- Assist with general multi-family transactional work
- Apply training received (various specializations, general real estate, program-specific legal practices, etc.) to successfully participate and collaborate in special projects
- Provide support to Agency day-to-day legal functions
- Attend in closing calls and internal meetings
A unique component of this internship experience is the opportunity to be part of a wider cohort of interns
across MassHousing. All interns will meet weekly to engage in team-building activities and share their
experiences. This unique setup allows our interns to form meaningful connections, collaborate effectively,
and understand the holistic workings of MassHousing. These cohort meetings also provide a setting for
interns to interact with our executive leadership, offering insights into strategic decision-making and
organizational culture.
This is a paid three-month internship starting in May 2026. Pay rate is $20.00 - $24.00 per hour,
commensurate with prior experience. The internship maintains a Monday through Friday schedule
requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week.
MassHousing operates under a hybrid work model; Interns will be expected to work on site at least two
days a week. During the onboarding and training period interns will be expected to be on site as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
The Legal intern will:
• Have completed their first year of law school
• Be proficient in Microsoft software including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Be eligible to work in, and travel freely to and from, the United States without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
• Completed 2nd year of law school
• Have Real estate and/or finance in their background
• Demonstrate an Interest in MassHousing’s mission-based work, affordable housing or real estate
