The Harford County Bar Foundation is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Intern to join our team for Fall 2025. This position offers hands-on experience in legal aid operations, community outreach, and nonprofit administration, providing valuable skills for students interested in law, public service, or nonprofit management. This is an unpaid position.
Responsibilities
- Log and track case-related activities and hours in Legal Trak.
- Manage email and calendar scheduling for the team.
- Review closed Judicare Referral Certificates for accuracy and completeness
- Maintain and update attorney and local business contact lists, including verifying mailing addresses.
- Follow up with clients on incomplete Judicare applications via email or phone.
- Close out inactive applications in Legal Trak when no further action is required
- Attend Rent Court proceedings with the Access to Counsel in Eviction (ACE) team.
- Create and organize intake folders.
- Develop and maintain a folder of community outreach ideas.
- Research potential legal aid grants.
- Assist and contribute to different event planning and outreach ideas.
- Interview clients telephonically and in-person to collect factual information related to their case
- Input case-related information into client database
- Ensure copies of all relevant documentation are routed to the client’s case file
- Provide assistance at off-site clinics and seminars
- Assist in the facilitation of various fundraising appeals
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in high school, undergraduate, or graduate program, preferable in pre-law, legal studies, political science, or a related field.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Interest in community service, legal aid, and nonprofit work.
