Overview
Flomad is searching for a thoughtful and detail-oriented Ethics & Legal Research Intern to help examine and shape the ethical and legal dimensions of our work in AI and robotics. In this role, you'll explore critical issues such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, regulatory compliance, and responsible innovation—ensuring that our technologies are developed and deployed with integrity.
You’ll support the development of ethical guidelines and compliance strategies while researching emerging legislation and global AI governance trends. Working closely with our engineers and product teams, you’ll help embed ethical foresight and legal safeguards directly into the design and decision-making processes.
This position is ideal for those interested in aligning technology with human rights, ethical responsibility, and public policy. You’ll gain hands-on experience in applied ethics, tech law, and cross-disciplinary collaboration at the intersection of emerging innovation and global policy.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal and ethical research on topics such as AI safety, data use, algorithmic accountability, and intellectual property in robotics.
- Help draft internal ethics standards, policy briefs, and compliance documentation for AI systems and autonomous technologies.
- Monitor changes in regional and global AI regulation and advise teams on potential legal or ethical implications.
- Assist in evaluating risk across projects and ensure consideration of social impact and governance principles.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to embed ethical frameworks into design, deployment, and oversight.
- Prepare summary reports, risk assessments, and research findings for internal and external use.
- Participate in team discussions, contributing to the development of ethical product design practices and responsible innovation policies.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Strong research and writing skills with the ability to analyze and communicate complex legal or ethical issues clearly.
- Interest or academic background in law, ethics, public policy, or a related field (e.g., AI governance, digital rights, tech regulation).
- Awareness of topics such as data protection laws, ethical AI frameworks, and responsible innovation.
- Attention to detail and a solutions-oriented mindset when dealing with policy ambiguity or evolving regulations.
- Experience in policy analysis, legal writing, or academic research is a plus.
- Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work across teams and disciplines.

We actively collaborate with universities to offer college credit for this internship. Once you express interest and are selected, we will work with your institution to facilitate the process of obtaining credit for your participation, pending university approval.
