Haynes Boone, a global Am Law 100 law firm with more than 700 lawyers in 20 offices, seeks an upperclass law student to serve as the Practice Innovation Intern on the firm’s Practice Innovation team during the Fall 2026 semester (September – December 2026). The successful candidate will have achieved strong academic performance in law school legal research and writing coursework (preferably, at the 1L and upperclass levels) and will have demonstrated instinct and aptitude at leveraging generative AI tools to assist legal research and achieve professional efficiencies. Law firm or in-house legal experience is a plus, but is not required.
This is a part-time, paid role (approximately 20 hours/week) supporting the firm’s Practice Innovation team, with a primary focus on generative AI and emerging legal technologies.

Essential Duties
- Developing and testing AI-assisted workflows for legal research, drafting, and data extraction
- Creating practical guidance materials (e.g., prompt libraries, use case examples, training content)
- Monitoring developments in generative AI and legal technology and translating them into actionable insights for the firm
- Supporting internal pilots and experimentation with new tools and capabilities
Reporting Relationship
Working closely with the Director of Practice Innovation and team members, the Intern will contribute to the development and refinement of AI-enabled legal workflows and practical use cases across multiple practice areas. The role is hands-on and execution-oriented, with exposure to real-world applications of AI in legal research, drafting, and knowledge management.
Qualifications
- Strong academic performance, particularly in legal research and writing
- Demonstrated interest and hands-on experience using generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, or similar)
- Ability to think critically about how technology can be applied to legal workflows
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
- Prior law firm or in-house experience is a plus, but not required

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this position is $40.00-$40.00. Please note that the final offer amount may vary based on experience and skillset of the selected candidate.
