The Human Resources Department provides personnel-related support to all City Departments. This internship offers hands-on experience in public sector Human Resources, including recruitment, onboarding, Learning & Development, systems support, and employee engagement initiatives.
Interns are encouraged to demonstrate initiative, creativity, and innovative thinking while supporting departmental operations. New ideas are welcomed, and interns may contribute to meaningful projects aligned with operational needs.
The intern will also serve as the first point of contact at the Human Resources reception area, gaining experience in professional communication and customer service within a municipal environment.
- Serve as the first point of contact at the Human Resources front desk, providing professional and courteous customer service to employees, applicants, and visitors.
- Manage multi-line phone system, route calls appropriately, and respond to general HR inquiries.
- Support the development, coordination, and improvement of new employee onboarding programs.
- Assist with Learning & Development activities including training coordination, room setup, tracking attendance, and participant communication.
- Create and assist with internal communication materials and training content, including digital and video-based resources.
- Assist with coordination and participation in job fairs, recruitment events, and outreach activities.
- Attend HR-related meetings including staff meetings, trainings, and project sessions.
- Provide administrative support in updating and formatting job specifications and recruitment documents.
- Assist with records management processes including organizing, auditing, and preparing files for storage or destruction.
- Support data collection and reporting for HR surveys, audits, and probationary tracking.
- Anticipate project needs, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Driving is not a key aspect of this position, but reliable personal transportation is necessary for commuting to and from the workplace
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources, Public Administration, or a related field.
- One (1) year of experience with applications in the Microsoft Office environment.
- Strong verbal communication skills and professional phone etiquette
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Preferable Qualifications
- Experience in customer service or reception support.
- Experience assisting with training coordination or event planning.
- Familiarity with digital media or video creation tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.
Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Clearance process to include national fingerprint-based records check and approval for controlled access to protected information.
