Job Summary
Patterson Companies has an exciting opportunity to participate in our summer Internship Program! This internship runs from late May through August of 2026. The legal intern will participate in meaningful work, along with making contributions to team efforts in our fast-paced corporate environment. This internship will be a hybrid position working both remotely and on-site at our corporate office located in Mendota Heights, MN.
Essential Functions

This role offers hands-on experience with a range of employment law topics including legal research, policy development, compliance and litigation support. The intern will work closely with attorneys and paralegals to help ensure the organization’s employment practices remain compliant with federal, state and local regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
Tasks might include the following, depending on need:
- Perform legal research and help create and maintain multistate compliance trackers and regulatory updates. Look for patterns and evaluate application to organization practices and policies.
- Summarize documents and prepare chronologies, workflows, reports and similar documents
- Prepare updates for HR team members related to legislative changes and trends.
- Gather and organize information and documents. Summarize documents and prepare chronologies, workflows, reports and similar documents.
- Review files prepared by HR in response to employee personnel file requests in order to comply with jurisdiction requirements.
- Schedule and attend meetings, take notes and coordinate follow-up actions as needed.
Job Qualifications
- Required Qualifications
- 2L or 3L student at an accredited law school
- 1Ls with professional work experience in the area of employment law (such as paralegal) or HR/employee relations experience will be considered
- Proficiency with Office products to include MS Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MS Visio, MS Forms
- Completed coursework in employment law, benefits law or related areas.
- Knowledge of or experience with multi-state laws or HR compliance

Environmental Factors
Our corporate office is in an environment in which team members occupy desks in assigned areas or at meeting/collaboration spaces within the building. The building’s primary work areas consist of desks, chairs, computers and other office equipment and devices for professional services.
The starting pay for this role is $20 - $25 per hour.
