Overview of the Contracts & Procurement Division
SANDAG is the regional agency that connects people, places, and innovative ideas by implementing solutions with our unique and diverse communities. SANDAG Contracts Division staff carries out and coordinates the acquisition of millions of dollars of goods, equipment, construction services, and professional services each year through the preparation of solicitation and contracting documents. Contracts staff provide advice on procurement and contracting to project managers and oversee various procurement activities and services. The Contracts Division is responsible for providing the framework, guidance, and expertise to ensure SANDAG contracts are awarded in an open, fair, and competitive manner.
Role
If you are a student or recent graduate, a paid internship at SANDAG is a great way to launch a career at a public agency. The agency is always working on interesting and challenging projects and our managers are dedicated to sharing these experiences and mentoring the next generation of professionals in the industry. This intern role will be in the Contracts Division, which works to advise and assist project managers when procuring consultant or contractor services to implement their planning, research, construction, technology, and operations projects and services.
The experience is substantive. If selected for an internship, you would be fully integrated into your team and given project responsibilities that are both learning opportunities and a chance for you to contribute to the overall success of the agency. You will enhance your technical knowledge in your chosen field and refine your abilities to collaborate, contribute to high-performing teams, and communicate – skills that are the essence of a successful professional! Work will be performed at SANDAG offices located at 1011 Union Street, in downtown San Diego. This is not a remote role.
Job Responsibilities
- Carry out filing, data entry, and recordkeeping tasks using online databases.
- Develop reports and contract closeout documentation.
- Work with SANDAG consultants to process their requests to add personnel or subconsultants.
- Assist with maintaining consultant rate schedules and records used for tracking use of small and disadvantaged businesses.
- Prepare drafts of procurement and contract documents.
- Ongoing team support on a variety of special projects, initiatives, and programs.
- Assist with preparing progress reports and communicating with project managers in the agency.
Typical Qualifications
- Graduate or undergraduate level coursework in business, finance, public administration, engineering, planning, or a related field.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask and work on several projects simultaneously.
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to perform a range of administrative support services and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to communicate with various audiences using exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Willingness to perform a variety of tasks typical of entry-level analyst position.
- Ability to complete assignments that involve researching, analyzing, and synthesizing information into written summaries, reports, or recommendations.
