JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Legal & Custody Manager, this position is responsible for assisting customers and persons serving legal papers on the Bank, processing claims, settling the closure of deceased customer accounts and responding to inquiries.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- In response to legal processes such as Tax Levies, Garnishments, Child Support Levies, Distraint Warrants, etc., researches, requests clarification and additional information in order to process orders, etc. Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and procedures in order to efficiently and accurately process these orders, etc.
- Communicates verbally and in writing with personal representatives, executors, attorneys, customers and employees, etc., regarding the disposition of funds held in Bank accounts and relating to the effect of court orders on employee pay. Answers questions and inquiries as required.
- Resolves or directs questions from both internal and external customers received via the main phone line or in person. Accepts the legal process/documents served on the bank.
- Monitors, researches and follows-up to close out and settle old garnishments when the underlying judgments expire.
- Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or Paralegal Associate degree from an accredited Institution and two years of work experience, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 0 – 1 years of banking operations experience, relevant legal office or department experience, probate, estate settlement, etc. or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with typewriters, personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) or similar software. Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems including customer, cardholder, recovery and other inquiry systems.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Must be analytical, detail oriented and organized. Requires critical thinking, good judgment and the ability to know when to ask questions and for ask for assistance. Must be a person who always follows up and follows through. Should be a self-starter who is able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Must be an effective and efficient team player who can also resolve problems independently. Knowledge of and ability to discuss settlement procedures with a high level understanding of Bank operations. Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned. Must be able to move/lift boxes up to 35 lbs.
