Are you a second-year law student looking for hands-on experience in criminal defense while earning academic credit? The Law Offices of Kirk Tarman & Associates is seeking a Legal Intern / Law Clerk for our fast-paced defense firm. This role is ideal for 2L students who are detail-oriented, passionate about advocacy, and eager to work directly on criminal defense and restraining order matters.
This internship has the potential to convert into a full-time paid position upon graduation or program completion, depending on performance and firm needs.
You will assist with active felony and misdemeanor cases, gaining hands-on experience in trial preparation, motion drafting, organizing discovery, and communicating directly with clients.
Responsibilities
- Assist with new client intakes and provide ongoing support to current clients.
- Draft and format criminal defense motions, including Judicial Diversion, Military Diversion, Serna, and Trombetta motions.
- Conduct legal research and cite-check based on case facts and applicable statutes or case law.
- Organize and review discovery materials; redact sensitive information and ensure timely delivery to clients.
- Prepare and cancel subpoenas as needed; request and track court transcripts.
- Maintain attorney calendars, manage court deadlines, and support internal communication.
- Assist with hearing and trial preparation, including compiling exhibits and pretrial documents.
- Communicate professionally with clients, witnesses, investigators, and expert witnesses.
- Perform general administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, data entry, and assisting with intake operations.

Term: Summer 2025 (Start date flexible between June–August)
Schedule: 30 Hours
Credit: Eligible for academic credit
Location: On-site at our Rancho Cucamonga office (required)
Potential: Opportunity to transition into a full-time law clerk or paralegal role based on performance
