DIGITAL FELLOWSHIP

Senator Markey’s Washington DC office is currently accepting applications for Digital Fellows for Fall 2026. Applications are due by Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 11:59pm EST.

Qualifications: The Digital Fellowship is directed toward current and recent undergraduate bachelor and associate degree students. All applicants should be familiar with graphics creation, video editing, and social copy drafting. Candidates should have a proven ability to work independently and well with others, as well as possess strong task delegation and completion skills. Backgrounds in film, journalism, photography, political science, and communications are desirable but not required. Massachusetts ties are strongly preferred.

Commitment & Credit: Fellowship opportunities are available on a full-time basis. School credit is possible for all fellowships if arranged and approved by the intern’s respective college or university. Candidates may also apply for stipends, details listed below.

All fellows are required to commit to working a minimum of 40 hours a week.

Fellow Responsibilities Include:

· Drafting social copy and video scripts

· Creating engaging graphics for the Senator’s social media, print materials, and charts.

· Editing rapid-response and longform vertical video content.

· Assisting in the production of livestreams and in-person events.

· Overall support for the Senator’s digital production

Stipends:

Stipends are available on a limited basis to students from Massachusetts who could not otherwise afford to live or work in Washington DC. Fellows will receive a stipend at the pre-tax rate of $17 an hour.

In order to be eligible, please submit a statement describing how this stipend will allow you to pursue your educational goals and professional aspirations through this internship experience. This essay is reviewed separately from the internship application.

Pursuant to federal law, an individual may not be hired for a paid Senate position in the continental United States unless the individual meets one of the following criteria:

· is a United States citizen;

· is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B);

· is (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; or

· owes allegiance to the United States. (Note: To meet this requirement, an individual must be (1) a non-citizen U.S. national born in or having ties to American Samoa or Swains Island (as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1408), or (2) a non-citizen U.S. national pursuant to section 302 of Public Law 94-241 (relating to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands).

Participation in E-Verify Program: The law requires this Office to comply with the E-Verify program established by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA). If you are selected by our Office for a stipend or will receive other remuneration from the Office, the Office will verify with the DHS and SSA that you are eligible for employment in the United States.
